They have local generation assets, wind, solar, diesel backup. They have a great connection. It uses algorithms\u00a0to determine energy needs.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Summerside had an existing software system, but the utility felt that it was not reacting well to changes in the grid, changes in the environment, changes in wind generation,&#8221; Paul said.<\/p>\n<p>Paul said the company has set up a research centre in Summerside, and will be hiring people locally\u00a0to keep adding to the cloud platform as part of the Canadian Centre of Excellence.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;What will end up happening moving forward is other utilities in Canada will actually be able to benefit from the platform,&#8221; Paul said.\u00a0&#8220;We have other customers and partners of ours in India, in the U.K. and U.S. market that are already part of this platform.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>University research<\/h2>\n<p>University researchers will also benefit, the company said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;What we&#8217;re doing is providing that platform to outside-world researchers to get access to actual operating data, and making sure that they can use that data for development of their techniques and tools,&#8221; In effect, it&#8217;s a consulting service at the front end when they&#8217;re doing the testing, because they&#8217;re trying to see the possibilities,&#8221; Paul said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Once they see the possibilities, then they pay us on an ongoing basis to use the software,\u00a0to save them money and decarbonize their operations.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>International leader<\/h2>\n<p>Paul said the next step for BluWave-ai and for the City of Summerside is the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/prince-edward-island\/pei-solar-farm-summerside-1.5426227\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">new Sunbank project<\/a>, with large-scale solar and battery storage, which will allow Summerside the capacity to operate with 100-per-cent renewable energy.<\/p>\n<div>\n<ul class=\"similarLinks\">\n<li class=\"similarListItem\"><a class=\"similarLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/prince-edward-island\/pei-solar-farm-summerside-1.5426227\" data-contentid=\"\"><span class=\"similarLinkText\">$69M plan for Summerside solar farm announced Tuesday<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"similarLinks\">\n<li class=\"similarListItem\"><a class=\"similarLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/prince-edward-island\/pei-summerside-solar-aspin-1.6193745\" data-contentid=\"\"><span class=\"similarLinkText\">Local company scores $55M solar power contract for Summerside<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>&#8220;They&#8217;ll be able to cover all their energy needs by renewable energy in most circumstances.
